Reasons to leave your house are slowly diminishing, you can watch movies online, get food and groceries delivered and most things you would ever buy can be delivered to your front door, the only real reason left to leave your house is to buy something you need right away, but Amazon is looking to change that with their new Prime Air drones.
Amazon Prime Air is a service that can deliver an order to your house in 30 minutes. The drones used to deliver packages will fly under 400 feet and weigh less than 55 pounds and are able to deliver packages that weigh up to 5 pounds.
The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) recently granted Amazon exemption to fly commercial drones, the stipulations include that the drones can only fly up to 100 miles per hour over private property and must remain 500 feet away from other people.
The drone will go through many different iterations in the research and development phase and Amazon has announced that they start the service once “the regulatory support needed to safely realize [their] vision” has been achieved.
Below is a video Amazon released showcasing the latest Prime Air drone design.
(sidenote: the video is starring Jeremy Clarkson, who recently with his former co-hosts signed a deal with Amazon to create a new car show as a result of BBC canceling their former hit show Top Gear. Interesting indeed)
